When James Franklin was officially hired at Virginia Tech, you knew that things were going to change both on and off the field. On the field, there is nowhere to go but up in terms of the results after a dreadful 3-9 season. Off the field, recruiting was going to take a giant step forward.
The recruiting part was evident right after he was hired, when he flipped nearly a dozen commits from Penn State in the Class of 2026 to Virginia Tech to follow him. When it comes to the Class of 2027, it is a class that is ranked in the top 25 in the country and one that has former Michigan four-star commit quarterback Peter Bourque committed.
Attention is turning toward the Class of 2028 and beyond, and this weekend, when Franklin begins his Virginia Tech tenure, he'll have a slew of recruits on campus for a visit. Here is a list of some of the names who will be in Blacksburg against VMI.

As you can see, this is a loaded list. Wide receiver Malachi Lee recently dropped his top 12, and Virginia Tech was in it along with a lot of other power programs. Right now, nine commits are expected to show up on campus for the holiday weekend. One player who is not scheduled to be on campus is Bourque.
The big name on this list is Lee. The top recruit in the Commonwealth would be a huge get for Franklin and Fontel Mines over some of the top programs in the country. This is the first of six busy recruiting weekends in Blacksburg. Expect the lists to get bigger as the season goes along.
