Another week down and another week closer to Virginia Tech football in 2025. The Hokies will kick things off against South Carolina in Atlanta on Aug. 31, a Sunday afternoon. It'll be a standalone game for both teams, which will bring more eyeballs to the TV on the long holiday weekend.

Don't blink too much, or it'll be time for kickoff against the Gamecocks in what would be a huge momentum swing for Pry in his fourth year if his team can find a way to knock off the preseason darlings in the SEC. It's the upset and signature win that Virginia Tech needs.

Three Sundays from Virginia Tech vs. South Carolina

So 21 days, three Sundays away from the Hokies' season opener, and the number three is where we'll take a look at this week. Some say that three non-conference wins are what the Hokies need to almost secure a bowl berth at the end of the season. Games with Vanderbilt, Old Dominion, and Wofford await Virginia Tech following the season opener, all at home. Seven home games this fall are a huge plus for Tech.

Offensively, wearing the No. 3 this year is Wake Forest transfer wide receiver Donavon Greene. After losing four receivers from last season's team, the Hokies returned some young players, including Ayden Greene, who played a key part in the offense last fall, but Pry needed some additions through the portal, and Greene could be a huge addition.

Injuries hampered his time in Winston-Salem, but he is primed for a big breakout season in Blacksburg with quarterback Kyron Drones and first-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. Along with Tennessee transfer Cameron Seldon, there are going to be options for Drones and Montgomery this season.

Year 3 was a huge swing and a miss for the Hokies under Pry in what was supposed to be the year that they made big progress in the rebuild, but here's hoping Year 4 is the year where progress is made. We'll find out beginning in three weeks.
