ACC Men’s Basketball Power Rankings: Where’s Virginia Tech ranked?
By Scott Roche
No. 9: Syracuse (7-3, 0-1)
The Orange are adjusting to life with Jim Boeheim and adjusting to Adrian Autry. Syracuse went 1-2 at the Maui Invitational, losing to Tennessee and Gonzaga before routing Chaminade. They dropped their ACC opener at Virginia but bounced back with a home win over Cornell. They are an ACC sleeper this season.
Games this week: Dec. 17 vs. Oregon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
No. 8: Virginia Tech (7-3, 1-0)
The Hokies opened ACC play with a win over Louisville, but they were blown out by Florida Atlantic in the championship game of the ESPN Events Invitational, then Auburn beat them by 17 points in Virginia Tech’s first true road game. Still a lot of questions surrounding a veteran team.
Games this week: Dec. 17 vs. Vermont.
No. 7: Pittsburgh (7-3, 0-1)
The Panthers dropped their ACC opener to Clemson, but rebounded in a win over West Virginia, 80-63, behind Blake Hinson who hit nine 3-pointers in a 29-point performance. Before those two games, Pittsburgh lost to Florida and Missouri and beat Oregon State.
Games this week: Dec. 16 vs. South Carolina State.
