Sunday, the Florida State football team was wrongly left out of the College Football Playoff by the committee. The Seminoles went 13-0, but they won the ACC Championship game Saturday night in Charlotte, 16-6, over Louisville. It seemed like as a Power 5 conference champion they would be one of the Final Four teams standing. They weren’t and Jim Phillips made it known how unhappy he is.

Despite being ranked fourth in the latest projections last Tuesday night ahead of the championship games, the Seminoles dropped to fifth and were passed by Texas, who won the Big 12 Championship over Oklahoma State and Alabama, who edged previously No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

After the College Football Playoff field was announced and Florida State was not part of the field, reactions were strong and the ACC Commissioner released a statement.

ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips released a strong statement

Jim Phillips was not happy and it was clear by the statement he released.

The committee got it right with Michigan at No. 1 and Washington at No. 2. Then after that, that’s where things got interesting. Texas vaulted up the rankings to No. 3 following their rout of the Cowboys and Alabama jumped four places also, to No. 4, after beating the Bulldogs. It should be mentioned that Texas beat Alabama earlier this season on the road in a non-conference game.

Whether or not you like Florida State, it doesn’t matter, in the end, they got hosed by the CFP committee. Yes, they are missing their top quarterback Jordan Travis who was injured two weeks ago in a non-conference game against North Alabama and they were missing their No. 2 quarterback in state Rodemaker who suffered a concussion against Florida last weekend late in the game from a cheap hit after he gave himself up and slid on a run. It shouldn’t matter.

Florida State and the ACC got hosed in this decision and in the end, college football fans deserve better, and every single player and coach at FSU deserves better too.
