Virginia Tech Football: 4 likely bowl destinations for the Hokies’ in 2023
By Scott Roche
No. 3: Wasabi Fenway Bowl, Boston, vs. UTSA
Last season Louisville played in this game against Cincinnati and won, setting themselves up for a strong 2023 season that has them in the ACC title game against Florida State. This game is played at Fenway Park, which makes for an unusual set-up like at Yankee Stadium with the benches on the same sideline.
The Roadrunners are a program on the rise and are a fun team to watch with their skill on offense and their ability to put up points. The weather will likely be awful in late December in Boston and the safe pick for this bowl for the ACC is the hometown Boston College Eagles, but Virginia Tech has been mentioned in some projections.
No. 2: Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Charlotte, vs. Kentucky
Kentucky has been the SEC team linked the most to this game and after the Hokies blowout of the Cavaliers, they raised their stock for this game. This is one of the more fun bowls as it’s usually a high-scoring back-and-forth affair. Putting up points in five of their eight ACC games has not been a problem for Pry’s team.
The Wildcats beat Louisville on Nov. 25, 38-31, on the road and completely ended the Cardinals’ College Football Playoff hopes with that loss. Even if they beat FSU this weekend, they would have needed a miracle to get in. Virginia Tech fans would show up big time in Charlotte.
