Virginia Tech Football: 4 likely bowl destinations for the Hokies’ in 2023
By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech football team is officially bowl-eligible at 6-6 following their win over Virginia on Nov. 25 in Charlottesville. Over the last month-plus, the Hokies have been linked to multiple bowls against different opponents.
Virginia Tech should find out their destination Sunday after all the conference championship games have been decided Saturday. Here are three realistic bowls that the Hokies could find themselves in and their opponent.
No. 4: Pinstripe Bowl, Yankee Stadium, vs. Wisconsin
There is an outside shot that Virginia Tech ends up in the bowl against a Big Ten team. The Hokies went 0-2 against Big Ten teams this season, losing at home to Purdue on Sept. 9, 24-17, in a game that saw multiple weather delays. They then lost a week later, 35-16, at Rutgers in the first full game for Baylor transfer Kyron Drones at quarterback.
The Big Ten team that has been linked the most to this game in bowl projections is Rutgers, a matchup that the Hokies wouldn’t do a second time this season. It would be a very interesting matchup because of what happened in Week 3, but it’s highly unlikely.
Syracuse against Rutgers in this game makes more sense, but a game against Wisconsin would be an interesting matchup for Brent Pry’s team.
