Duke’s Mayo Bowl: vs. Kentucky

Talk about getting a game close to home and having Hokie Nation show up. Playing in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte is a short trip for the team and fans.

Kentucky is coming off a 38-31 win at Louisville on Nov. 25, scoring a late touchdown to beat the Cardinals in an in-state rivalry game. Head coach Mark Stoops was linked to the Texas A&M job following the game, but he decided to stay in Lexington and Mike Elko, Duke’s coach this season, accepted the position in College Station.

The Wildcats are a team that like Virginia Tech, struggled with the top teams in their conference, but beat the teams they were supposed to beat. At 7-5, Stoops has done a nice job of building the Kentucky program and he has a tough team that would be a good test for the rebuilding Hokies.

Duke might be a better matchup for this game against Kentucky with all the basketball tradition on both sides and the Blue Devils would fill the stadium in their home state, but this a bowl that Pry and the Hokies would say yes to in a second.
