Virginia Tech Football: 3 takeaways from loss to NC State

The Virginia Tech offense moved the ball better in the second half
Despite the loss, there was a lot to like about the second half for the Virginia Tech offense. Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen opened the playbook more and quarterback Kyron Drones threw the ball well. It’s a big positive for them to take onto the road next weekend against Virginia.
After running just 18 plays for 95 yards in the opening half, the Hokies’ offense was much more effective against the stout Wolfpack defense and found the end zone three times, cutting a three-touchdown deficit to one late in the game.
Drones finished with a good stat line of 17-for-30 passing for 225 yards, and three touchdowns, while rushing for 51 yards on nine carries. He threw two touchdown passes to Da’Quan Felton, who finished with 87 yards receiving.
Losing is frustrating, but it’s not the end of the world for Virginia Tech. They still have the opportunity to become bowl-eligible next weekend and get those valuable extra practices and game in December. They just need to bottle up the second-half offense and bring that with them to Virginia like they did at Boston College last weekend.
