Boston College’s running game is overrated

Going into the game, all the talk was surrounding the Boston College running game and how they had the top rushing attack in the ACC and was 10th nationally.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, they were already missing running back Pat Garwo, who is a tough bruising back, and right before kickoff, it was announced that Kye Robichaux was going to miss the game with an injury. That was a huge break for Virginia Tech and they took full advantage.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos still played and he is a big threat to scramble out of the pocket and hurt teams with his legs and he did at times, while Alex Broome took the carries in Garwo and Robichaux’s absence, but after the one big first quarter drive that lead to a touchdown, Virginia Tech kept the running game in check.

Part of it was because BC had Castellanos throw the ball early and he threw a pair of interceptions to Dorian Strong, but with the Hokies scoring early and often, it forced the hands of the play calling for Boston College, and that played into the hands of Chris Marve’s defense.

It was a case of the perfect timing for the Hokies to play the Eagles whose running game is a lot better than they showed. Tech held them to 124 yards which is outstanding on the road.
