2nd prediction: Virginia Tech’s defense improves greatly in 2023-24

Last season, one thing that was frustrating about the season was the defense struggled big time on a nightly basis, which played a big part in the 19-15 overall record and finishing two games below .500 in the ACC. Young made it an emphasis in practices early this season to focus on fixing that end of the floor.

There were two losses to Boston College where the defense struggled and the six-game losing streak from December to January where the Hokies failed to get stops. We will find out early how much the defense has improved.

3rd prediction: Sean Pedulla averages over 20 points a game

Pedulla is going to be the go-to guy for Young and his staff and expect the junior to be ready to handle the pressure. Last season he averaged 15 points a game and there is no reason why he can’t take his offensive game to the next level.

Last season his 3-point shooting dipped to 34.3% and that should be better this season and look for him to score more this season. Health will be a big key for him and the team and getting a flow going early in the non-conference schedule is going to be vital before ACC play begins.
