Virginia Tech Football: 3 takeaways from a statement win over Syracuse

What a bye week for Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen
Things were going well in the three weeks leading into the bye week for Hokies offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. After finally committing to the running game and having success before the break, the former Penn State assistant came up with more tricks up his sleeve for the Orange.
Bowen wasted little time in pulling out the trick plays running and running a lot of different things. Virginia Tech ran some toss pitches, double reverses and even getting the running backs involved in the throwing game. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Bowen did.
After a halfback option that fell incomplete early in the game, Bowen went back to it with success later in the quarter. Malachi Thomas took a pitch from quarterback Kyron Drones and when he got near the sideline and threw a pass to a wide-open Da’Quan Felton for a 16-yard touchdown pass and a 10-0 lead.
Say what you will after Bowen following the first four weeks and rightfully so about Bowen, but since ACC play began, he has had a good run the last month calling games.
