Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest, odds, prediction, Week 7
By Scott Roche
Coming off of a 39-17 loss to then-fifth-ranked Florida State on Oct. 7, the Virginia Tech football team returns to Lane Stadium Saturday afternoon to host Wake Forest before they hit their bye week the following weekend. The Hokies, who have split their first two conference games, will be looking to get a key win against a team that is coming off a 17-12 loss to Clemson last weekend.
At 2-4, this is a big game for Virginia Tech in terms of an outside shot of becoming Bowl-eligible, but also going into the bye week on a positive note.
Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest, odds, spread and total
As I write this article, Virginia Tech is a 1-point favorite to win with an over/under of 48.

Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest Players to Watch
Virginia Tech
Kyron Drones, QB: Over the last two weeks, Tuten has got all the headlines on offense, but Drones has played better too. He has made plays with his legs, but also he has become more comfortable throwing the ball. He is an advantage under center with his skill set and look for Bowen to get him going with his arm and legs early.
Wake Forest
Mitch Griffis, QB: Last week against Clemson, Griffis was 15-for-25 for 137 yards as the Tigers got relentless pressure on him. That is the blueprint for Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Chris Marve this week, get after him as they did against Phil Jurkovec two weeks ago with Pittsburgh. The Demon Deacons are averaging nearly six fewer points this season and pressuring Griffis is going to be key.
Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest, Prediction
When the line came out for the game last Sunday, Virginia Tech was a 1.5 underdog at home, but during the week, the spread has changed and now the Hokies are a 1-point favorite. In the last two weeks, Tech’s offense has looked better, Bowen has committed to the run, and that has allowed Tuten to get going and make some plays. He had two touchdowns last week against the Seminoles, one on a 5-yard rush and a 99-yard kickoff return to begin the second half. Defensively, the Hokies need to come up with some stops and limit the big plays against a Demon Deacons offense allowing nearly six points less this season than in 2022.
Prediction: Wake Forest 28, Virginia Tech 27
