It’s safe to say that patience is wearing thin for fans of the Virginia Tech football team.

Trailing Marshall, 17-10, early in the third quarter, the Hokies pinned the Thundering Hurd deep in their own territory at the 2-yard line following a booming punt from Peter Moore. Getting a three-and-out stop and getting the ball around midfield is all they needed to do.

It didn’t happen.

Marshall faced a third-and-6 and quarterback Cam Fancher threw a ball up for grabs and it was almost picked by Virginia Tech, the ball fell incomplete. There were two flags thrown and pass interference was called on Dorian Strong to give Marshall a first down.

On the next play, Rasheen Ali ripped off a 61-yard deep run into Hokies territory, which set his 1-yard touchdown run and a two-touchdown lead for the hosts in front of a sell-out crowd.

Following the drive, Virginia Tech fans on X didn’t hold back and they are completely frustrated at their performance after such a positive opening drive that ended with a touchdown run for quarterback Kyron Drones. Can’t blame, honestly.

Since the season-opening win over Old Dominion, it has been tough to watch and each game is more disappointing than the previous one. The 2023 season is fading away quickly from the Hokies and the fans know it. They trail Marshall 24-10 late in the third quarter.
