Virginia Tech Football: Predicting how the Hokies will finish 2023
By Scott Roche
Weeks 7-9
Oct. 14, vs. Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons are 3-0 with wins over Elon, Vanderbilt and Old Dominion. Their win over the Monarchs was a big second-half rally on the road. They have games against Georgia Tech and Clemson before coming to Blacksburg and you can always count on a Dave Clawson team to at least be prepared. Prediction: Wake Forest 30, Virginia Tech 14
Oct. 26, vs. Syracuse: The Orange is off to a 3-0 start with wins over Colgate and Western Michigan at home. Saturday, they went to Purdue and beat the Boilermakers, something the Hokies couldn’t do at home and it is their best win of the season to date. Garret Schrader is back and as it’s currently constructed, should move the ball on the Virginia Tech defense. This is not a good matchup for Brent Pry’s crew. Prediction: Syracuse 34, Virginia Tech 14
Nov. 4, at Louisville: New coach Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals are off to a 3-0 start with a five-point ACC win over Georgia Tech, a 56-point rout of Murray State at home, and a 21-14 road win over Indiana. This is the second toughest road game remaining behind Florida State. Prediction: Louisville 41, Virginia Tech 16
