Following Virginia Tech’s 35-16 loss to Rutgers Saturday on the road defensive tackle Josh Fuga spoke about the defense coming out, knowing their assignments, and doing their job.

“We just gotta come out and do our job,” Fuga said. “That’s all it is. We have to know our assignment, know our job. We just have to do our job.”

For the third game in a row, the second straight against a Big Ten opponent, the Hokies’ defense didn’t do their job. He’s right. They failed to stop the run in their first three games this season against Old Dominion, Purdue, and now Rutgers.

When his media session was over, he made one more statement and it’s one that should fire up all of his teammates inside their locker room.

"“Hold on. I want to say one thing. I’m going to give y’all my real and everything that I can be, because that’s what y’all want is real. I want to read a quote. I didn’t even really want to come in here and talk. Because I was just too messed up about the game and how we played. But one quote I always lean on is from Yasmine Mogahed, she’s a educator and motivational speaker. She said, “Resilience is very different than being numb. Resilience means you experience, you feel, you fail and you hurt. You fail, but you keep going.’ That’s what this team is. This hurt. We’re 1-2. We failed. We failed at points in the game and we fought, but I’m going to tell you this: You put that team out, we’re going to keep going. That’s a fact. We’re going to keep going. We’re not going to stop. And I’m trying to tell you, I’m going to do my best to lead those guys and I’m going to try my best to give it my all for this team, for this program, for LPD. For whatever you want to think about Virginia Tech, I’m going to give it my all and I’m going to do it for those guys that are in the locker room behind me.”"

I don’t know about you, but I would want to go to war with Fuga. That locker room is going through a rebuild, but they should want to go out and run through a wall next week with him and for him.
