Virginia Tech cornerbacks tested and failed
Earlier this week, coach Brent Pry spoke about how his cornerbacks were not tested in Week 1 against Old Dominion. Well, there was a good reason for that as his defensive line gave up a whopping 201 yards to their Sun Belt Conference opponent.
This week he knew that Card and the Purdue offense was going to test them and without Peoples, they failed the test, which should come as no surprise. Card, who transferred from Texas to West Lafayette over the offseason, threw for 248 yards and completed 23 of his 34 attempts. A lot of the completions were downfield. In the second half, he carved up the Hokies blitz and completed multiple third-and-longs.
Going into the game, it was clear what Purdue was going to do on offense, and as the game went along, they wore down the Hokies. Like Old Dominion quarterback Grant Wilson, Card also hurt Tech with his scrambling ability at different times which played a big factor, especially in the second half.
