Predicting Virginia Tech’s 2023 football win-loss record
By Scott Roche
Virginia Tech closes the season with three of four ACC games on the road
Week 10: Nov. 4 at Lousiville
The Cardinals welcome Jeff Brhom to town and QB transfer Jack Plummer from the University of California. On the defensive side, Louisville allowed just 27.3 points a game and should be strong on that side of the ball again. Prediction: Loss
Week 11: Nov. 11 at Boston College
The Eagles were the Hokies’ only ACC win and coach Jeff Haftley is one of the coaches whose seat is getting warm. Gone is Jurkovec and he’s being replaced by Garrett Moorehead who showed some promise when his former teammate went down. This is a must-win conference game for Tech. Prediction: Win
Week 12: Nov. 18 vs. North Carolina State
Quarterback Brennan Armstrong transferred to the Wolfpack from Virginia, but he struggled last season for the Cavaliers and is hoping a change of scenery can do him some good. Their defense should be stout and win them some games for coach Dave Doeren. Prediction: Loss
Week 13: Nov. 25 at Virginia
Last season this game was canceled after the tragic shooting on the Virginia campus. This season, the Cavaliers enter the season as the team picked to finish at the bottom of the conference standings by most media outlets. There is a very real possibility that the Hokies enter this game 5-6 and need it to become Bowl-eligible. Prediction: Win
There you have it, I predict that Virginia Tech will bounce back in 2023 under Pry and become Bowl-eligible in what would be a big step for the future of the program. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s certainly doable without having to play Clemson, North Carolina, and Miami in ACC games.
