Virginia Tech’s defense will bounce back in 2023
It can’t get any worse for the Tech defense in 2023, can it?
Last season, they finished near the bottom in takeaways with just 10 in their 11 games and only Lousiana-Munroe was worse in the FBS. It was the least amount of takeaways in the last 37 years in Blacksburg. You have to figure that number will rise in 2023.
Before they get into ACC play, the Hokies defense will get some tests against four FBS schools and that will benefit them in the long run. There are questions at linebacker and in the secondary, but the gut feeling here is that they will have a bounce-back season under Pry and the adjustments he’s going to make.
It just takes six wins to become bowl-eligible and at least three non-conference wins will go a long way into reaching that number. The ACC games are going to be tough, but they avoided some of the better schools they played in 2022. Three ACC wins are certainly within reach for the Hokies this season, if not four.
