Believe it or not, Virginia Tech football has never played these FBS teams

Virginia Tech football hasn’t played these MAC schools

While they aren’t exactly regular opponents, the Hokies have had significant success against the current members of the MAC, sitting at 21-2 against those twelve schools. There’s not much to say, but just four of those teams haven’t been their opponents in these last hundred years.

They’ve had a handful of exciting matchups in the MAC, but Virginia Tech hasn’t had a game against Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, or Toledo, leaving some potential for firsts in the years to come.

Virginia Tech football hasn’t played these Mountain West schools

Things are quite different against the Mountain West, as the Hokies have played just three games against the current teams in that league, with two of them coming against Air Force several decades ago.

While they’ve played the four California schools from the Pac-12, the Hokies haven’t faced off against Fresno State, San Diego State, or San Jose State. Nearby Nevada and UNLV haven’t made it either, which isn’t too surprising.

The Hokies haven’t had a matchup against Hawaii, nor have they faced off with Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State, or Wyoming. There really isn’t a ton of details to share here; Virginia Tech just doesn’t get many chances to play Group of 5 schools on the opposite coast.
