Virginia Tech football: 2022 defense shows some promise

A return to Beamer Ball under Brent Pry should include a strong defense, and there were hopes for improvement on that side of the ball given Pry’s defensive background.

The defensive star has been linebacker Dax Hollifield, with 19 solo tackles. The 6’1, 245-pound linebacker from Shelby, NC has been the leader of this defense, as well as a pseudo-coach on the field. Hollifield also has a sack through the first 5 games.

Overall, the Hokie defense has fared better than the offense, ranking 7th in the ACC in points allowed (22.2).  This is a respectable ranking, and it is clear that allowing 22.2 points per game should lead to wins if the offense could muster 23 points per game.
