The 2022 Recruiting Class is shaping up to a solid class full of potential impact years for the Virginia Tech Hokies Football program. On Friday, July 3rd, the Hokies got another commitment in three-star wide receiver Tucker Holloway from Rabun Gap, Georgia.

Holloway becomes the first pure wide receiver in the 2022 Recruiting Class to commit to the Hokies. He is the Hokies’ 16th overall prospect to commit to the program. Holloway chose the Hokies out of 12 other programs with some just outside of the division one programs. He chose Virginia Tech over Air Force, UConn, Iowa State, Liberty, and Tulane. Holloway measures in at 6-3, 175 pounds with a thin but tall frame.

According to MaxPreps, Holloway caught 23 receptions for 460 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles. He averaged 20 yards per catch and 57.5 yards per reception as well. The Eagles’ offense utilizes a unique combination of different schemes that include the spread and the bunch formation. Holloway is a player that excels in the bunch formation either as a receiver or as a designed runner. As a runner last season, Holloway rushes for 127 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries.

Holloway’s film shows that he is a highly athletic and dynamic playmaker in multiple formations and play schemes. He is a solid route runner who can create separation from the opposing defensive back with his speed and quick turn of the hips at the top of his routes. He can scout the ball and find ways to separate the defensive back from the quarterback’s window of the ball trajectory. As a runner and quick pass receiver, he is highly elusive and difficult to bring down.

Holloway also plays cornerback for the Eagles, where he accounted for 19 total tackles, 17 solo tackles, one tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and two interceptions this past season. Holloway can scout the ball and secure it into a window to pick off the ball.

Holloways’ commitment to the Hokies program currently puts them at 21st overall in the nation, according to 247Sports. Virginia Tech is ranked third in the ACC, just behind the Florida State Seminoles at #1 and Boston College at #2.

The Virginia Tech Football program is securing a strong and unique recruiting class of impact players on both sides of the ball. Much like they currently possess, the Hokies are getting commitments from players that can be called upon when needed in terms of unique utilization. Holloway is among some of the players that will not fill up the stats sheet game-in and game-out, but they will be players that will help them win drives and potential games. The Hokies expect a few more key commitments just before the start of the 2021 High School Football season. These will be players can focus on finishing their senior seasons.
