Last season was a difficult year for most, if not all, teams in the sport of College Football. The Virginia Tech football program found themselves on a rough start to the season from the beginning. It all started with the understandable departure of star cornerback and an eventual first-round selection in Caleb Farley. Virginia Tech was in the spotlight for an unfortunate situation.

After a 4-2 start to the season, the Hokies found themselves on a rough patch of a four-game losing streak thanks to a series of injuries. The Hokies finished the season 5-6 thanks to a dominating 33-15 win over their rivals in the Virginia Cavaliers.

There have been some discussions in the past over-head coach Justin Fuente being on-and-off the hot seat for the Hokies. While times have been difficult for the Hokies, the discussion has been brought up wondering if Fuente can bring them back to the success of the 2016 season where they finished 10-4. This was the last time Virginia Tech won the Coastal Division.

Ever since the 2016 season, the Hokies have been 28-22 (19-15 in ACC play). While this is not a do-or-die season for the Hokies in 2021, there need to be some signs of progress going forward with the program. The Hokies are looking to get back into the national spotlight as well as strong competitors in the ACC.

This 2021 season will not be easy as they are having to replace key contributors from last season especially on the offensive side of the ball. Here are three things Virginia Tech must do to get back in the national spotlight.
