The Chargers have the elite Derwin James at Safety will Divine Deablo be a perfect partner?

The Chargers have not been able to stay healthy on defense for what seems like an eternity. They now have a new defensive head coach, who could get the most out of Deablo. This would create for an amazing young safety-duo and allow them to get creative on defense. Either player could slip down into slot corner, or linebacker in a dime formation. Giving them the versatility to cover just about any offensive formation.

While Deablo needs some experience and seasoning, Derwin James does not. He should make up for some of Deablo`s weaknesses.

There is a need here at safety for them, and they have enough picks in this year’s draft to take a shot on him. Which they will need to do before they would like, as the third round and fourth round will be a hot spot for safeties in the NFL Draft. They will be fighting off several other teams in that round who want safety, so he could go sooner than most people think he should.

If Deablo ends up on the Chargers we could see a lot of him early on special teams, and in a free safety slot.

I would not look for him to be an every-down player just yet, as they could go corner early. Which would take away a chance for him to move around to that position, due to his limited athletic ability. This is a team with a solid pass rush, so having athletic corners is more of a need than big ones who can make tackles, the opposing teams will need to get it out quick. But, he will be an excellent option to watch in the run games, on short-yardage situations in this defense.

NFL Draft Projection- Los Angeles Chargers third round, 77th overall.
