Virginia Tech basketball: Hokies land a big transfer
The Virginia Tech basketball team just got a giant transfer. No, seriously he’s 7-feet-0 and 250 pounds. This is an awesome move for a team that’s already good, getting a big inside presence. Michael Durr could be the missing defensive the Hokies needed.
Michael Durr just transferred to the Hokies from the University of South Florida. He will be playing a great role between the two top forwards from Virginia Tech. He brings with him an average of 8 points, 7 rebounds, and just shy of a block a game from USF. He did that in just 19 games, if he had a chance to play a full season, he would have had his double-double average. Durr may also need to add a bit of size to his frame I would like to see him closer to 265 for his height and a little bit more muscle, but I am sure the training staff can make it happen.
I would expect his role to increase with the Hokies and push all of those numbers up. He should not have an issue coming in averaging close to if not a double-double this season.
Last year he managed to get three double-doubles with points and rebounds and fell just shy of several more. Pushing double digits in rebounds seven times last year and a five-game-stretch where he had double-digit rebounds a game. As for points, he had more than 10 points nine times last year cracking 14 four times. Durr only had 7/19 games without a block.
Playing in the ACC is no easy task with multiple powerhouses, so getting as much down low talent as possible to seal the paint is a must. Mix that with the ability of Techs three-point shooting and the love of it, he could clean the glass on any misses, but also stretch the floor as he will be a threat. Durr could instantly make this team far more dynamic than it already was, and if he can progress we could see this Virginia Tech basketball team send three players into the 2022 NBA Draft.
