Virginia Tech Football: Two Hokies Named ACC Players of the Week
By Chris Wright
After a dominant performance against East Carolina, two Hokies find themselves named to the ACC Players of the Week list for the second time this season.
After being shut out in week two, the Hokies once again boast multiple players of the week. Josh Jackson took home Rookie of the Week, while Cam Phillips earned Reciever of the Week honors.
Jackson’s performance was nothing short of incredible. His 372 yards passing and five touchdowns were the driving force behind the Hokies’ big win against ECU. 372 yards gave him the rookie-Hokie record, with the five touchdowns tying the program record. The Pirates’ pass defense is one of the worst in college football, but Jackson showed that he can stand back there and take advantage of an opponent’s weakness.

Cam Phillips did some re-writing of the record book as well, breaking the single-game receptions record for Virginia Tech. His eleven first-half receptions put him two away from tying the record, with three in the second-half putting him over the mark.
When you catch fourteen passes you’re going to want some yards and touchdowns to go with it. Phillips got just that to the tune of 189 yards and three scores. ECU had no answer for Phillips all day, as he put the country on notice that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Through three weeks, Phillips is number one in the country in receiving yards. With a home game against Old Dominion upcoming, he has a real chance to hold that lead.
