On Saturday, the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies visit the East Carolina Pirates for their first official road game. Can the Hokies’ offense bounce back for a third straight win?

How to Watch: CBSSN

Preview:

The No.16 Hokies will take a trip to Greenville, North Carolina on Saturday to play the East Carolina Pirates. This will be the Hokies first official road game after opening the season at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland for a neutral site game.

The football season has been going as good as can be expected for Virginia Tech; opening with two wins is never a bad thing. The same cannot be said for East Carolina. The Pirates have a record of 0-2 to start the season, and are the more desperate team, trying to halt the continuation of a failing season.

Virginia Tech’s most recent game was a 27-0 win against the Delaware Blue Hens. Even though the Hokies took the victory, there were some things to improve on, namely the offense. The Hokies struggled to put up those 27 points, with only two touchdowns being generated by the offense.  Josh Jackson and company will have to tighten and be ready for the Pirates, a team dying for a win. By now Jackson should be used to the pressure, so Hokie fans will be expecting better production against a defense near the bottom of college football.

Prediction:

The Hokies are heavily favored in this matchup, having a better record and far better defense. However, ECU has replaced their defensive coordinator with defensive line coach, Robert Prunty. It will be interesting to see how the Pirates’ defense responds to a coaching change.

The Hokies defense will continue to do the work, and the offense will take come alive on the field right before our eyes.

Virginia Tech wins 35-14
