Athlon Sports released their Preseason All-American list, and two members of Bud Foster’s defense made the cut

As we continue to move towards the start of the 2017-18 football season, many publications are releasing their season previews, which in many cases, include All-American awards lists.

Athlon Sports is one of the many magazines to release their season preview for all FBS teams. Within this preview is the Preseason All-American list, which happens to include two members of the Virginia Tech defense.

Senior cornerback Greg Stroman was named as a Second Team Preseason All-American, while junior linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was tabbed as a Third Team Preseason All-American.

Despite only playing in nine of the 11 games for the Hokies due to injury, Stroman enjoyed a productive junior year as one of the premier members of the Virginia Tech secondary, as he recorded 10 pass breakups and three interceptions on the year. As a result, the Bristol, Virginia native was honored as a Second Team All-ACC selection by the coaches.

Tremaine Edmunds also proved his worth as a prime time player last season for the Hokies, recording 106 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in his first full season as a starter on Bud Foster’s defense.

The Danville, Virginia product is one of the most important members of the defense before the ball is even snapped, as he aids middle linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka in signal calling and defensive alignment.

Both players will be pivotal to team success on the defensive side of the football this fall, and they will be on everyone’s radar heading into the new season after being named Preseason All-Americans by Athlon. Congratulations to both Greg and Tremaine on the early recognition.
