Seth LeDay, who many had expected to play a role in the frontcourt next season, is heading to East Carolina

Former Virginia Tech forward Seth LeDay, the younger brother of star forward Zach LeDay, has announced that he will transfer to East Carolina.

The younger LeDay was expected to be a major part of the equation in the frontcourt next season for the Hokies, who have had their fair share of turnover down low over the past few years. LeDay did not play this past season, his first in Blacksburg, due to NCAA transfer rules.

With the health of redshirt-sophomore forward Kerry Blackshear seemingly always in question, the Hokies were hoping that LeDay would fill in the void of his older brother’s graduation, while spelling Blackshear and sophomore Khadim Sy in the paint.

LeDay averaged 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest at the junior college level, lending credence to the fact that he could be a solid rotational player for the Hokies, at the very least.

This will be the fourth different school for Seth LeDay, who has now been enrolled at one time or another with Northwest Mississippi Community College, Seminole State, the Hokies, and now East Carolina.

With LeDay now officially out of the fold, the Hokies will rely on both Sy and Blackshear, as well as 6’10” forward Nick Fullard, who transferred from Belmont Abbey prior to last season, and incoming 6’7″ freshman P.J. Horne to ease the burden on the block.

Horne likely projects better on the wing at the college level, but played through the paint a fair share throughout high school.

Regardless, the Hokies will be thin down low once again next season, a deficiency in depth that Buzz Williams will be looking to continue to develop over the next couple of recruiting classes.
