Report: Hokies Quickly Trending for 4-Star SG M.J. Walker
According to a report furnished by 247 Sports, the Hokies have become the favorites to land 4-star shooting guard M.J. Walker
The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off one of their best basketball seasons in recent memory this past winter, going 22-11 and 10-8 in the ACC before losing to the Wisconsin Badgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Much of the early success in the first few seasons of the Buzz Williams era can be attributed to his penchant for strong recruiting, which he has exhibited time and time again since he has arrived in Blacksburg.

The upcoming 2017 class is already one of the best signing classes in school history, as the Hokies have already inked 4-star guards Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Wabissa Bede, to go along with 3-star power forward P.J. Horne. Despite already making major headway for the future with the signing of these three players, it appears that Buzz Williams and his staff are not done yet.
According to a report furnished by VT Scoop of the 247 Sports Network on Monday, 4-star shooting guard and McDonald’s All-American M.J. Walker is “trending towards Virginia Tech” following his visit to Blacksburg over the weekend for the spring football game.
At the time this was written on Monday morning, the Florida State Seminoles were still considered the favorites according to the 247 recruiting experts’ Crystal Ball projections, but late on Monday night, Matej Sis, also of VT Scoop of the 247 Sports Network, tweeted that the Hokies have become the favorites to land the services of Walker.
As Sis mentions in his tweet, landing Walker would give the Hokies a Top 5 recruiting class nationally, and hands down the best class in school history.
We’ll continue to monitor this situation as it develops.
