Following Saturday’s ACC regular season finale, the Hokies earn the seven seed in the upcoming conference tournament

It was a tough loss for Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon against Wake Forest, but despite falling short in the final game of the regular season, the Hokies were able to earn a 7-seed and a first round bye in the ACC Tournament, which runs from Tuesday through Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The first game of the tournament for the Hokies will be played on Wednesday night at 7 PM ET against the winner of the Tuesday match-up between #10 Wake Forest and #15 Boston College. The Hokies swept the two-game season series against Boston College, while dropping their only match-up of the season to Wake Forest on Saturday.

If the Hokies defeat Wake Forest or Boston College in the Second Round, they would face the two-seed Florida State in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 PM ET. The Hokies lost to the Seminoles 93-78 on January 7th, in a game was never really close.

As for the broader NCAA Tournament prospects, the latest Saturday evening Bracketology from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Hokies locked in as the 8-seed in the West Region, facing off against Northwestern in Salt Lake City.

While Bracketology does not always get the match-ups correct, Joe Lunardi has a solid track record of gauging which teams will make the field, and which teams will not. With the Hokies sitting as an 8-seed even after their loss to Wake Forest, it is safe to assume that they are a lock to make their first NCAA Tournament since 2007, no matter what the result may be in the conference tournament this upcoming week.

Plenty of ACC Tournament coverage for the Hokies will be available on the site in the coming days, so stay tuned.
