The Hokies QB battle will certainly be a story to watch during the spring. One player who is sure to make an impact whether he wins the job or not is QB signee Hendon Hooker.

Hooker (6-4, 204) is listed as a four star recruit and the number 8 overall player in the state of NC by 247 Sports. In addition, Scout adds that he is the number one QB is the state of NC.

Though Hooker was originally slated to enroll after the spring semester, Fuente convinced Hooker to enroll early. This decision came after Jerod Evans announced his intent to declare for the draft.

Hooker enjoyed great success in High School, especially during this past season. The school he attended (Dudley, NC) won the 4A state championship in dominating fashion, 54-0.

In that game, Hooker also filled up the stat sheet. He had five touchdowns in the first half alone of that game, and he won MVP honors.

Hooker was one of four players from Dudley who was awarded all-state honors as well. While he could afford to add some more muscle, he clearly has a versatile skill set.

In addition, the Hokies claim he has already put in some work, as he came in today 11 pounds up at 215.

At Virginia Tech, it is unclear how soon Hooker will get on the field. While many see Josh Jackson as a favorite to win the 2017 job, Hooker is certainly set to make a push.

Nonetheless, even if Hooker does redshirt (which may be the best thing for him), he will certainly be a huge difference maker for Virginia Tech in the not too distant future.

Just today, Hendon Hooker made the 2017 signing class all name team-and who can argue? More importantly, OC Brad Cornelson said on the Hokies Signing Day special that Hooker has an extremely high ceiling.

With Hooker’s size and skill set, Hokies’ fan will surely have flashbacks of Tyrod when watching his highlights. Regardless, one thing is for sure-Hendon Hooker is a name to watch.
