Virginia Tech RB Sam Rogers will play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl in January.

On Monday afternoon, The Reese’s Senior Bowl announced some of the early acceptances to their annual all-star showcase that will take place once again following the conclusion of the college football season.

Among the 12 players announced was Virginia Tech senior running back Sam Rogers. The former walk-on from Mechanicsville, Virginia has developed into one of the more reliable offensive players for the Hokies, where in addition to his primary work as a blocking back, he has rushed for 138 yards, while compiling 192 yards receiving out of the backfield with three touchdown catches.

Additionally, Rogers has thrown a 13-yard touchdown pass this season as a result of some trickeration in the late-October contest against the Miami Hurricanes.

Versatility and toughness has defined Rogers’ game since he stepped on campus in Blacksburg, as he has been a major cog in each of the four seasons that he has played for Virginia Tech.

With his appearance in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Rogers will hope to continue to showcase his talents in hopes of becoming a potential late-round pick in next April’s NFL Draft. This marks the second consecutive season that the Hokies have been represented in the all-star game, and 49th time overall that a Virginia Tech player has been represented in the game, per Hokiesports.com.

Last season, former Virginia Tech defensive end Dadi Nicolas participated in game for the South team. Nicolas, of course, went on to become a member of the Kansas City Chiefs after becoming their sixth-round selection (203rd overall) in the 2015 draft.

The 2017 edition of the Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, January 28th at 2:30 ET. The game is slated to be televised on the NFL Network.
