The Virginia Tech Hokies are doing a lot of evaluations of Class of 2015 and 2016 recruits that they have not previously extended scholarship offers to since the beginning of the new year. The Hokies have extended an offer to one 2015 recruit in 3-star Chris Williamson along with offers to multiple 2016 recruits.
One of those recruits is Tre Nixon.
Nixon is a four-star wide receiver from Viera High School in Melbourne, Florida. The Hokies were one of three programs to offer Nixon a scholarship on January 8th along with Louisville and Colorado State.
Nixon is currently ranked as the 39th best junior in Florida by the 247 Sports Composite, ESPN has him as Florida’s 34th best junior, and Rivals has him as Florida’s 60th best junior. Nixon is ranked as the 30th best athlete by Rivals, the 54th best wide receiver by the 247 Sports Composite, and the 44th best wide receiver by ESPN.
Tre Nixon is a speedy wide receiver that has run a very fast 40-yard dash time of 4.38. Nixon also has a solid vertical of 33 inches and an impressive GPA of 4 as listed by his Rivals page. Nixon is a smart, hard working player that seems to be a guy who could make a big early impact because of his speed wherever he goes.

Currently, the frontrunner seems to be Notre Dame who has received two 247 Crystal Ball votes in their favor for Tre Nixon in the last two days. Duke also has received a 247 Crystal Ball vote, but Nixon’s recruitment seems fairly wide open overall right now which is not too surprising.
One big thing for the Hokies is the fact that WR coach Aaron Moorehead is the primary recruiter for Nixon. Moorehead has done a great job recruiting wide receivers and should be able to give the Hokies reasonable chance at getting Nixon.
Nixon is a recruit that will likely continue to receive more offers though it will be interesting to see if Florida and Miami emerge as larger contenders given the home state advantage. Nixon’s impressive GPA also could be a sign that academics will end up being a big factor for him.
However, the Virginia Tech Hokies definitely have a chance to end up getting Tre Nixon though the Hokies are definitely not a favorite to get him right now.
