The Virginia Tech Hokies are busy with recruiting right now with National Signing Day less than a month away, and no football practices currently going on. The Hokies are not only focusing on Class of 2015 recruits, but are also focusing on Class of 2016 recruits.

One of Virginia Tech’s top targets is four-star defensive tackle Ellison Jordan of the Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ellison Jordan is ranked as the 20th best defensive tackle by Rivals, the 15th best defensive tackle by the 247 Sports Composite, and the 12th best defensive tackle by ESPN. Jordan is also ranked as the 171st best junior by the 247 Sports Composite and the 115th best junior by ESPN.

Jordan is a top prospect for the Hokies and we are fortunate enough that he decided to answer some questions for us. Here is what he told us via text message.

Tim Thomas: What did you take away from your unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on Black Friday?

Ellison Jordan: “That place was lively! Like the crowd was wild, crazy, and fun! And that was my first time ever being at a Virginia Tech game and I really enjoyed it! I visited VT in August for an unofficial so that was my second time in Blacksburg! It is cool and I may go visit them for their junior day.”

TT: What is your relationship with the Virginia Tech coaching staff?

EJ: “I think I have a good relationship with them. The coach I know the most is Coach Moorehead who is a really cool guy! He is the main coach I talk to out of all of them since he is the recruiter for my area!”

TT: What stands out to you about Virginia Tech?

EJ: “I really like their food! It is so delicious! When me and my family was there, we went to go get lunch with me and Chuck (Cantor). Me and my brother were eating mostly everything up lol!

“But another thing I like about them is their academic standards! They are really good with their student-athletes and their students! But I want to learn more about their communications program because I would like to do something like you are doing for sports and be like a sports broadcaster.”

TT: Has one of your former high school teammates, Melvin Keihn, had much communication with you about Virginia Tech?

EJ: “To be honest, not really. He was actually at our school today and has been since Tuesday. The only time I talk about VT to him was after the VT vs UVA game. Me and my cousin were chilling with him and others.”

TT: Is there any strong pull to stay in Maryland and play for the Terrapins?

EJ: “Right now, I am still wide open to anybody! I really like UMD but I am not ready to think of favorites yet.”

TT: Have any programs emerged as leaders in your recruitment?

EJ: “I don’t have any favorites. I have no leaders. The reason for this is because I have only visited 3 schools out of my 15 offers that I have.”

TT: Lastly, who do you think will win the National Championship?

EJ: “Oregon”

We would like to thank Ellison Jordan for answering our questions.
