The Virginia Tech Hokies have built up the ACC’s best wrestling program under Kevin Dresser, and are definitely the favorites to once again win the ACC wrestling title. The Hokies have a very talented roster that definitely has the potential to challenge for a national championship.

The Hokies are led by Devin Carter who is definitely a top contender to win a national title in his own right. Virginia Tech also has talented freshman Zach Epperly who has been very successful this season, and was also the ACC Wrestler of the Week a couple of weeks ago.

Now, Epperly is not the only Hokie to be the ACC Wrestler of the Week this season.

Joey Dance was named the first ACC Wrestler of the Week for the new year after ending 2014 in a very good way. Dance dominated at the prestigious Midlands Championships on his way to winning the title at 125 pounds. Dance is only a sophomore and is definitely one of the Hokies’ wrestling stars.

To get the victory at the Midlands Championships, Dance had to defeat the number 4 wrestler in the country at 125 pounds, Iowa’s Thomas Gillman. Dance has emerged as one of the top wrestler in the country at 125 pounds, and this victory is the latest proof of that.

Dance came from the extremely talented Christiansburg High School wrestling program where Kevin Dresser was the head coach before taking over for the Hokies.

Joey Dance was the ACC Freshman of the Year last year and an All-American, and has continued to get better this season. Dance has been dominant with only two losses so far in 18 matches while he has also risen up the rankings to the number four spot at his weight class.

Dance is definitely a contender to win the national title this year, but the impressive thing is the fact that he has three chances to win at least one individual national title before he graduates.

Joey Dance is one of the stars of Virginia Tech wrestling, and is a big reason why Virginia Tech wrestling is a contender to bring Virginia Tech its first national championship in any sport this season.
