Hokies Recruiting: Dwayne Lawson Decision Preview and Prediction
By Tim Thomas
The SEC Longshot: Ole Miss
The Ole Miss Rebels are one of the three finalists for Dwayne Lawson and while they do not have much of a chance of getting Lawson, they can’t be ruled out. Hugh Freeze and his staff have given themselves an outside shot of getting the four-star dual-threat quarterback.
The appeal of the SEC is still fairly strong and that is something that the Rebels probably have tried to use their advantage. Also, Lawson has the potential to come in and compete early for the chance to be the starting quarterback in Oxford.
One of the biggest factors that hurts Ole Miss is the player-coach relationship as Ole Miss does not nearly have the same type of player-coach relationship as Virginia Tech or Miami have had with Lawson. Ole Miss also lacks momentum right now after getting destroyed by TCU on New Year’s Eve.
The Rebels do have the overall success of this season to help themselves out along with the fact that Hugh Freeze did sign a contract extension. Ole Miss also has already received a commitment from JUCO QB Chad Kelly though Kelly’s future currently seems uncertain.
The biggest issue is the strong player-coach relationship between Lawson and Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler which makes Ole Miss a longshot.
