Hokies Football: Top Remaining Class of 2015 Recruiting Targets
By Tim Thomas
1. DT Tim Settle
There is no doubt that defensive tackle Tim Settle of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia is Virginia Tech’s top recruiting target especially after the Hokies failed to get Josh Sweat. Settle’s top five is a lot different than what people expected it to be.
Settle is ranked as the 78th best player by the 247 Sports Composite, 168th best player by Rivals, and 17th best player by ESPN. Settle is ranked as the 11th best defensive tackle by the 247 Sports Composite, 14th best by Rivals, and 4th best by ESPN. Settle is also one of the top recruits in Virginia along with Sweat, Oklahoma commit Ricky DeBerry, and Ohio State commit Matt Burrell Jr.
Oklahoma State and Washington State definitely seem like the longshots in the pursuit of Settle but there have been plenty of surprises in this recruiting battle. USC has the named brand-recognition and NFL player pool that helps the Trojans out significantly in recruiting but the Trojans are definitely the third choice.
Louisville is definitely the second choice in this process as they have been making a big surge in the pursuit of Settle. Louisville’s defense was very impressive this past season, and the Cardinals are also in a power 5 conference now that they are in the ACC.
However, the Hokies are definitely the favorites with Settle set to announce his college decision at the Under Armour All-American Game on January 2nd. The Hokies have the home turf advantage and can sell Settle on the fact that he is the best recruit in the state of Virginia to make the decision to “stay home” if he comes to Blacksburg.
Right now, Virginia Tech is the favorite, and getting Settle would be a big addition.
