Virginia: An In-State Longshot

The Virginia Cavaliers are one of the eight finalists for Ricky DeBerry and early on in the process, Virginia projected to be one of the top contenders especially after some of the success Mike London had last season with in-state recruiting. However, the Cavaliers do not have much of a chance at getting DeBerry.

Virginia has the proximity to home advantage over every finalist for DeBerry including the Hokies though that probably is not much of a boost for the Cavaliers. The success of freshmen for Virginia will definitely help UVA’s chances while he could have a chance to start at defensive end if he goes to Charlottesville and Eli Harold stays in the NFL Draft.

The lack of major success for Virginia over the last decade defintiely hurts the Cavaliers’ chances of getting DeBerry. Mike London is also on a very hot seat entering next season and the lack of guarantees at head coach for Virginia beyond next season definitely hurts.

Being in-state helps UVA’s chances but it is quite clear that Virginia is very unlikely to get the four-star recruit.
