The Virginia Tech Hokies are only a few weeks away from their first season under head coach Buzz Williams and the roster has seen a lot of changes since Williams took over this past spring. Williams lost Trevor Thompson, Ben Emelogu, C.J. Barksdale, and Marshall Wood this offseason due to transfers.
However, Williams is bringing in a lot of players as he was able to get Seth Allen from Maryland and Zach LeDay from South Florida though both players will not be able to play this season. Also, the Hokies were able to keep guards Justin Bibbs and Jalen Hudson along with gaining commitments from guard Ahmed Hill, center Satchel Pierce, and JUCO power forward Shane Henry.
All of the newcomers have the potential to make big early impacts but Justin Bibbs could be very productive and gain some national attention.
Bibbs played for the renowned Montverde Academy in high school and while Class of 2015 power forward and LSU commit Ben Simmons gained the most attention on that roster, Bibbs was a very good player in his own right.
The tape shows someone who knows how to score whether it is the pull up jumper or it is driving to the hoop and getting an easy bucket. Bibbs is someone that can be a solid three-point shooter but his ability to drive makes him a dangerous threat to attack the rim and then be able to dish it outside. Also, Bibbs is a guy who can do some damage in transition and the Hokies seem likely to be an up-tempo team this season.
Bibbs is a guy who can start as a third guard for the Hokies and be a focal scorer for the Hokies at the 3. Bibbs is built quite well and is someone that will not be pushed around on defense especially if someone tries to back him down around the post.
The Hokies had Devin Wilson on the All-ACC Freshman team last season and Justin Bibbs has the potential to pull that off this season. Bibbs is a very good scorer and actually could be an upgrade as a freshman over Jarell Eddie who had a solid collegiate career. Bibbs is ready to surprise a lot of people nationally this season and that is exactly what I expect to happen.
