The Virginia Tech Hokies have been traditionally known as a running back powerhouse with plenty of Virginia Tech running backs going on to the NFL including stuff like Kevin Jones, Lee Suggs, Darren Evans, Ryan Williams, and David Wilson. Virginia Tech has always had tons of talent in the backfield and entering this upcoming fall, the Hokies have tons of talent on the roster at the running back position.

After looking at the Hokies’ top 3 quarterbacks yesterday, we take a look at the top 5 running backs today.

There are some names that did not make our top 5 and this list does exclude fullbacks so Sam Rogers will not be on this list but if we did include fullbacks, Rogers would have a spot in the top 5. D.J. Reid is a guy who could surprise a lot of people now that he is on campus but for now, Reid is not in the top 5.

The biggest name that will be absent is Marshawn Williams who would have been in the top 5 if it wasn’t for the weight gain he has had. Williams can definitely be a very good running back for the Hokies but he has to get his weight under control and improve his self-discipline. If he doesn’t do that, he will not have much of any success in Blacksburg.

Now on to the top 5.
