The Virginia Tech Hokies have never had a very large football staff outside of the talented coaching staff but that is starting to change. When Whit Babcock took over as athletic director, Babcock said that he would look to help raise the money to expeand the Virginia Tech football staff off the field and improve Virginia Tech athletics as a whole. The new indoor football facility was a big first step but the Hokies have started to add some more people.
The Hokies announced that Chuck Cantor had been hired to become Virginia Tech’s first Director of Player Personnel for Football via a press release on hokiesports.com. This is a big addition and the latest proof of how Whit Babcock is following through on what he has said he would do in taking Virginia Tech athletics to a whole new level. Cantor has a lot of experience and this job will mean that his focus will be on all things recruiting for Virginia Tech football.
Cantor has had tons of success elsewhere as he was previously at Temple and helped them have one of the best recruiting classes they’ve had in the past few years. Cantor was also the Assistant Athletic Recruiting Coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2008 to 2011 and was helped Georgia build some very strong classes.
Cantor would have probably been at a bigger program if it wasn’t for the fact that he left to be a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State after being at Georgia. However, Cantor has worked his way up the ranks and now is ready for the chance to really help the Hokies recruiting. This is a big addition for a Virginia Tech football program that has made some big off the field additions this offseason.
