Caleb Farris is arguably going to be the leader of the offensive line unit in the fall as the senior from Lexington, Virginia will be a big part of the Hokies plan on the offensive side of the trenches. Caleb Farris can also be valuable in being a mentor for some of the younger offensive lineman like Wyatt Teller and Augie Conte who are part of the future of the offensive line. Caleb Farris has made 18 starts in his career and has played at guard and center. Farris is a proven guy that will definitely be a starter in a fall but one question still remains.
What position will Caleb Farris start at in the fall?
Right now, Caleb Farris is penciled in as the starting center as an injury to David Wang opened the door for Farris to slide to center with Wyatt Teller and Augie Conte at guard. Farris has starting experience at guard and for whoever the new quarterback is, Farris would be a guy that could be relied on for getting off quality snaps. Farris would be a great fit at center but there is one main reason why this seems unlikely.
The best possible offensive line for the Virginia Tech Hokies is still with Caleb Farris at one of the guard spots and David Wang at center. Wang is a guy that was an All-ACC Honorable Mention last year and is a reliable center that knows how to get the job done. Wang also is used to running the offensive line at center and that type of experience could be critical for the youth on this offensive line.
The one main reason why Caleb Farris might end up at guard is the fact that Augie Conte and Wyatt Teller are very talented and in-game experience will help their development. Conte and Teller are the future at offensive guard and should be starting at those positions as long as they are in Blacksburg. However, the question that should decide where Farris should be based on what 5 starting offensive lineman makes the Virginia Tech offensive line the best it can possibly be? The answer to that question is still with Caleb Farris at guard and David Wang at center.
