Saige Jenco’s Impressive Freshman Season for the Hokies

Entering the season, Saige Jenco was a guy that Virginia Tech fans knew very little about as the outfielder had been redshirted last year and was an unknown on a Virginia Tech baseball team that had low expectations after losing so much talent after a strong 2013 season. Saige Jenco was one of the many new Virginia Tech starters that had low expectations because of the unknown on how well he would play in the tough ACC. However, Saige Jenco has exceeded expectations this season in what has been a very impressive season for the redshirt freshman outfielder.

Saige Jenco has proven this past season that he is already one of the best leadoff hitters in college baseball and will be a big part of the future. Saige Jenco has a .323 batting average which is second best for the Hokies while his .449 on-base percentage and 40 walks lead the Hokies this season. Saige Jenco also has shown some skills at being a run producer with 1 home run and 16 RBIs but Jenco’s ability to be that quality table setter and get on base is quite impressive.

Not only does Saige Jenco get it done at the plate but he also gets it done on the basepaths and out in the field, proving how Jenco is a complete, leadoff hitting outfielder. Saige Jenco has stolen 20 bases in 26 attempts and those 20 steals also lead the Hokies which proves how Jenco is getting himself not only on base but also in scoring position. Saige Jenco has only had 2 errors this year to go along with a .988 fielding percentage with both of those being above-average numbers. Saige Jenco is a complete player that has a very bright future for the Hokies.

However, Saige Jenco definitely has the chance toget some postseason honors and garner even more preseason honors before the 2015 season. Saige Jenco definitely deserves consideration for being honored as an All-ACC Freshman as Jenco has had an excellent redshirt season. Saige Jenco also seems likely to make a run at being on a Preseason All-ACC team though that is unlikely. However, Saige Jenco has defintiely had a great season that should have Virginia Tech fans excited about his future.
