The Virginia Tech Hokies’ basketball program has had a loy of excitement this offseason largely due to the arrival of Buzz Williams in what was the best coaching hire of the offseason. Buzz Williams has gotten out on the recruiting trail and has been targeting point guard Devonte Graham. The addition of Isaac Chew as an assistant was big as Williams was continuing to build up the program. Buzz Williams has been quite actove on the recruiting trail and has started to make a big impact on the Class of 2014.
In the last couple of days, news broke that 4-star shooting guard Ahmed Hill, who is 54th in the ESPN 100, had been released from his National Letter of Intent at Marquette. Then, news broke today that Ahmed Hill had decided to follow Buzz Williams and leave Marquette to join Virginia Tech. This is a big addition for Virginia Tech as the Hokies now has two commits in the ESPN 100 and three four-star players. Buzz Williams is flexing his recruiting muscle right now and Hokie Nation has to be very happy about that.
Hill will be able to immediatwly come in and battle for playing time while also giving the Hokies even more backcourt after an injury-riddled season left the Hokies with only two healthy guards for most of the season. Hill is quite talented and brings very good size for the shooting guard spot at 6’5”. Hill could lead to another four-star guard in Jalen Hudson getting redshirted just to save a year of his eligibility. The Hill addition also makes you wonder if the Hokies might see someone like Adam Smith transfer. However, Ahmed Hill is a great addition for Buzz Williams who is showing his strong recruiting ability.
