News has just broke today and it is huge for the Virginia Tech Hokies’ men’s basketball program as Athletic Director Whit Babcock has decided to fire head coach James Johnson. The fact that a meeting between Johnson and Babcock was schedule for today was not a good sign that Johnson would be sticking around and that has now come true in Blacksburg. This news was just broke by ESPN.

James Johnson has been on the hot seat for the last month and Johnson probably lost his job largely to the fact that he had only averaged 11 total wins in his two seasons and finished last in the ACC both seasons. Normally, Johnson would not be on the hot seat despite his two bad seasons but the change in leadership put Johnson on the hot seat and Whit Babcock look for his own guy. Of course, the Hokies could be a lot better if they would have been able to keep Dorian Finney-Smith from transferring to Florida and Montrezl Harrell from flipping his commitment to Louisville. The Hokies are arguably the best job on the market and that will become a certainty if Bruce Pearl ends up at Auburn.
