The Virginia Tech Hokies knew that they were underdogs entering this showdown against the North Carolina Tar Heels but the Hokies came out and played like a team that didn’t even care about who the favorite was. The Hokies were able to stay in contention to pull off the upset throughout wwhich is very good given how well the Tar Heels had been playing entering this game. Virginia Tech put up  a valiant effort and there are four reasons why the Hokies almost upset North Caorlina.

1. Devin Wilson had a big game.

Devin Wilson made plays all over the floor for the Hokies and really played well in a big game on Senior Day against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Devin Wilson found ways to create shots for himself and for other Hokie players which was a big reason why the Hokies stayed in contention to win. Wilson made some big passes and his 7 assists just show how big of a performance that Wilson had. Wilson showed a lot of maturity with the way he was able to occassionally manipulate the North Carolina defense to create space for the Hokies. Wilson made some big time passes that just showed how much better he has gotten over the course of this season.

2. Trevor Thompson has become a very good post player.

Trevor Thompson has gottent better and better this season with today being the latest example why Thompson is a big part of the future. Thompson was a threat and his 8 points were a big reason why the Hokies were able to stay in contention throughout the game. Thompson also had 6 rebounds and seems to be becoming a magnet for getting a lot of rebounds. Thompson has become better and better and is a big reason why the Hokies have become a lot more competitive over the last few weeks.

3. Jarell Eddie played well in his final home game.

Jarell Eddie made a lot of quality plays today and made a huge impact in giving the Hokies a better chance to win. Eddie had 18 points and those buckets seemed to be at times when Virginia Tech needed to get something to go in for momentum. Eddie also proved why he is an underrated rebounder as Eddie had 7 rebounds as he continues to be a solid rebounder. Eddie also was somewhat efficient shooting the basketball which was an issue earlier in the season. Jarell Eddie made a major impact on helping the Hokies today almost pull off the upset.

4. Virginia Tech made its free throws

Virginia Tech had plenty of opportunities at the free throw line and the Hokies got the job done today from the charity stripe. The Hokies were facing another team that had free throw issues like themselves in the Tar Heels but the Hokies stepped up and made sure that they didn’t give away many points at the line. Jarell Eddie and C.J. Barksdale didn’t miss a single free throw while Devin Wilson made 8 of his 12 free throws which was critical. The Hokies got the job done at the free throw line and that was big in this game.
