#24 Virginia Tech continued its winning ways on Saturday. The Hokies won their 6th game in a row, and their 3rd conference victory. VT defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers with a score of 19-10. Logan Thomas led the Hokies to victory once again, and has definitely won the hearts of fans.
Logan Thomas was at his best on Saturday. The quarterback tossed a touchdown pass to tight end Kalvin Cline, and threw for 239 yards. He also carried the ball 16 times for 27 yards. Thomas is limiting his turnovers and has become a complete quarterback. He will certainty see his draft stock rise as he is carrying the Hokies offense.
Trey Edmunds disappointed again. Edmunds rushed 9 times for just 13 yards. He has really struggled over the last few games, and could lose playing time to J.C. Coleman who rushed 6 times for 25 yards. The Hokies offense has played much better lately, but establishing a run is something they must work on for the future.
Demtri Knowles led the receiving core with 5 catches for 79 yards. Freshman tight end Kalvin Cline made a huge impact as well by hauling in 65 yards and a touchdown. Willie Bryn returned for the Hokies, and caught 4 passes for 46 yards. Thankfully, the wide-receivers have stepped up and have fans forgetting about how inconsistent they were in the beginning of the season.
The defense performed just as they have all year long on Saturday. They only allowed 213 total yards for Pitt. The Hokies had no problem disrupting Tom Savage as they recorded 5 sacks. The sacks came from Derrick Hopkins who had two and Dadi Nicholas who had three. Although they did not create any turnovers, they did not allow Pitt to get any type of rhythm going. The Hokies defense is legit, and will be one of the best in the country all year.
Kicker Cody Journell was much better for Virginia Tech. He was 4/5 on kicks. He hit from 48, 37, 42, and 23. Journell also knocked through an extra point in the game. The hope is that Journell is over his early season struggles and he will continue to be more consistent.
Virginia Tech could easily move up in the polls a few spots on Monday. They are now winners of 6 straight, and are becoming an all around dangerous team. Logan Thomas is now a threat to opposing teams and he is getting better with every game. The defense continues to shut down everyone they face and they are a scary unit to go up against. Up next for the Hokies is Duke. Duke is 4-2, but should not be a struggle for Virginia Tech.
