I guess if you can't beat them, you might as well join them. Well, almost.
For the second time in three years, there is a mass exodus out of Blacksburg with the Transfer Portal for men's basketball. This year, the exodus is not really surprising, with some of the players who are bolting. Where they're ending up is somewhat surprising.
Three freshmen, by class name, not age, hit the portal with two being international players. One of them, Antonio Dorn, didn't waste much time in finding a new home, landing back in the ACC at Wake Forest.
This past season, the Demon Deacons played the Hokies three times and won two out of the three matchups, including in the first round of the ACC Tournament when they ended any small chance Virginia Tech had of making the NCAA Tournament.
In 24 games for Virginia Tech, Dorn averaged 8.5 minutes, 2.6 points, and 18 rebounds a game. He actually played a big role in the ACC Tournament loss, scored eight points, and grabbed seven rebounds with three assists in two blocks against his new team in 13 minutes. It tied his season-high for points with eight, which he hit against South Carolina in December in the ACC/SEC Challenge in Columbia.
Former Virginia Tech transfer lands back at UNC
Earlier this week, it was announced that former Virginia Tech transfer Jaydon Young was hitting the Transfer Portal for a second straight season. After leaving Blacksburg last spring, he ended up at North Carolina to play for Hubert Davis.
However, after Davis was fired, Young hit the portal, but after the school hired Michael Malone as their new head coach, Young decided to run it back next season in Chapel Hill. It's not surprising that he would return to play for an NBCA Championship head coach.
