Virginia Tech is in the 2014 Cancun Challenge

The Virginia Tech Hokies made some big announcements today with the biggest one being about the two-year extension that Frank Beamer received through 2018 with Whit Babcock putting his full support behind Beamer if it already wasn’t. The Virginia Tech football program wasn’t the only athletic program with big news today.

Buzz Williams and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program also revealed their full 2014-2015 schedule including all of their ACC games and non-conference schedule.

The biggest news that came out of today’s schedule was the fact that the Hokies will be in the 2014 Cancun Challenge with a matchup against Northern Iowa in Cancun. The winner of this game will play the winner of Northwestern and Miami of Ohio in the championship while the losers will also play each other. The games will also be televised

In addition to two games in Cancun, the Hokies will also play two homes game against Liberty and Morgan State as a part of this group of games. This tournament should give the Hokies some decent neutral-site competition to a bad non-conferece and create a great chance to improve team chemistry away on a big road trip.

This is good to see the Hokies in a preseason tournament and getting at least a small early season basketball spotlight in Cancun on the CBS Sports Network.
