The Virginia Tech Hokies had some struggles this past season on the diamond but there were some players that did have solid seasons overall. Some players stood out including Mark Zagunis who was the Hokies’ best player last season and went in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft by Chicago Cubs. Brad Markey had a very strong season and was also selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 2014 MLB Draft.

However, there are some very talented baseball players still in Blacksburg.

The 2015 baseball season is still a long ways off for the Hokies but this is the time of year when we can look back at last season and see who are the best returning players for the Hokies. There are some good players that got left out of our rankings of the top 3 baseball players including Sean Kesslica and Luke Scherzer who definitely showed some talent and will be big parts of next year’s team.

However, only three made the list with rising senior Brendon Hayden, rising junior Jon Woodcock, and rising sophomore Saige Jenco being the top 3. Hayden went undrafted surprisingly and seems likely to be someone that could go in the first 25 rounds of the 2015 MLB Draft with a strong senior season. Woodcock might be the surprise on the list but some numbers suggest that he was a lot better than people realized. Jenco had a very impressive freshman season and is ready to build upon that as a sophomore.

So, let’s countdown Virginia Tech baseball’s top 3 players that are returning for the 2015 season.
